Annual Wine Release Schedule

Pisoni Estate Lucia Calendar of Events
The Pisoni family releases wine to the mailing list four times per year. Actual dates can be found listed on the vineyard calendar or by calling the office.

Consummate winemaking is both an art and a science. At our vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands, we blend the two disciplines daily to grow first-class grapes. As soon as we finish the harvest, we bring the fruit to our Sonoma County winery where we begin the process of fermentation and aging the very same way. Our wines spend a minimum of 12 to 24 months in barrel. Once bottled, each of our wines ages six to twelve months more before we make it available for purchase.

We release wines four times each year in an order that generally follows each wine’s taste profile or the age of the vine upon which its grapes grew—the same order we would follow if we were doing a horizontal tasting of all our wines in a given setting.

The schedule listed below includes the official dates of successive releases, which we provide to our mailing list customers. Actual shipping dates are typically a bit later, as noted in the newsletter we send out for each season’s release.

Winter (February)

Lucia by Pisoni

Our Winter release is exciting, as it is the first offering of wines one sees from a given vintage. In this release we present the three wines of Soberanes Vineyard and our sought-after Estate Cuvées.

The Soberanes Vineyard is a beautiful site situated on very rocky land and noted for a profile of minerality. Its elevation ranges from 300 to 700 feet and is named for the historical significance to our area. The Estate Cuvées, our appellation wines, are a blend drawn from the three vineyards we farm. Produced exclusively from estate fruit, these 100% free-run wines are crafted with the same standards as are our single-vineyard wines, but require less cellaring time.

Spring (April)

Lucy Wines

Lucy tells the story of our winemaking from other varieties around the Monterey Bay area. They are standouts for fun and versatility, as well as being regionally significant and also giving back to the community. We’re particularly proud to be able to match each of these wines with a dedicated cause: breast cancer research, ocean conservancy, and the local firefighting community.

Summer (June)

Lucia by Pisoni

Summer offers a very focused release of two remarkable sites in the Santa Lucia Highlands.

Garys’ Vineyard is located in the center of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation and was planted in 1997 as a joint-venture by Gary Pisoni and Gary Franscioni. The sloping hillsides here, which range from 300 to 700 feet above sea level, provide the vines with good sun exposure and an excellent soil profile.

Susan’s Hill is a single rugged ridge top at Pisoni Vineyards. Named after Susan Pisoni Tavernetti, Gary’s sister, the vines here are extremely low yielding and produce Syrah of great structure.

Fall (September)

Pisoni Estate

Our Fall release consists of the special and very limited Pisoni Estate wines. This is the only time our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is offered for sale.  Due to limited production, there is a waiting period before one is able to purchase—if you are on this waiting list you will be sent a notification in August prior to the release if you will be receiving an allocation that year.

Pisoni Vineyards was first planted by visionary Gary Pisoni in 1982. The vineyard is perched high in the Santa Lucia Highlands at elevations from 900 to 1,300 feet. Cooling fog and the rugged topography combine beautifully here, allowing us to produce distinguished, impressively structured wines from many individual vineyard blocks. You can also read about Gary’s pursuit to find water at this mountainous site. This was one of the many obstacles he faced in developing this mountain vineyard.
