A Trifecta from Wine Enthusiast
for 2017 Lucia Pinot Noirs

A compelling show of the region.Matt Kettman, Wine Enthusiast
The Wine Enthusiast has honored three 2017 Lucia wines with high marks and accolades. “A compelling show of the region,” Matt Kettman, contributing editor and reviewer for the magazine, pronounces of our Lucia 2017 Pinot Noir. Designating it an “Editors’ Choice” wine, he describes this appellation blend as one “starting with fresh and lively aromas of black cherry, raspberry, loamy soil and crushed slate.” Kettman also accorded our Lucia 2017 Garys’ Vineyard Pinot Noir close to perfect scores, calling it “powerfully mineral-driven on the nose” and a wine with “tremendous depth of flavor to the intensely elegant palate, where strong but perfectly ripe dark fruits are balanced by tightly woven tannins.” Last but not least, the editor-reviewer commends our Lucia 2017 Soberanes Vineyard Pinot Noir. “Deep, intense aromas of black cherry, loamy soil, bay leaf and the slightest hint of smoke show on the nose of this excellent bottling from the Pisoni family.”
We’re delighted with all three 2017 Pinot Noirs. A wet winter–our first after an extended series of drought years–invigorated the vines by providing refreshing levels of groundwater. The ample rainfall, our winemaker Jeff feels, supplied the vintage with greater richness and vibrancy. His brother Mark, our vineyard manager, worked hard at harvest to set the crew at a fast pace in advance of a heat spike in order to bring in the fruit at an elegant level of balance and acidity. The entire Pisoni family is proud of these wines and very pleased to have them singled out for praise by as Wine Enthusiast, a distinguished wine periodical.
This appellation blend is a compelling show of the region, starting with fresh and lively aromas of black cherry, raspberry, loamy soil and crushed slate. The earthy quality is prominent on the palate, but backed up by deep accents of boysenberry and cardamom. Editors’ Choice.
Deep, intense aromas of black cherry, loamy soil, bay leaf and the slightest hint of smoke show on the nose of this excellent bottling from the Pisoni family. There are plenty of earthy qualities to the tense palate, from sagebrush to slate-driven minerality, but also inviting tones of Bing cherry and ripe cranberry.
Rich, clean and powerfully mineral-driven on the nose, this single-vineyard expression shows black cherry, tangy raspberry, crushed slated and damp gravel on the nose. There is tremendous depth of flavor to the intensely elegant palate, where strong but perfectly ripe dark fruits are balanced by tightly woven tannins, fresh acidity and more rock and soil flavors.
