2023 Pisoni Estate
Praised by Vinous

. . . a total showstopper.Billy Norris
We are sincerely grateful to Vinous for their recent reviews of Pisoni Estate wines, and to critic Billy Norris for his thoughtful words. His description of the 2023 Pisoni Estate Pinot Noir as an “. . . utterly classy wine” and of the 2023 Pisoni Estate Chardonnay, too, as “. . . a total showstopper” is an honor that speaks to Gary Pisoni’s dream of producing world-renowned wine such as that he tasted in his younger years, right here in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Such recognition humbles us, and inspires us to continue our pursuit of world class Pinot Noir.
The 2023 Pinot Noir is a blend from the four different ridges on the vineyard, aged for 11 months in 65% new French oak. Blue fruit and chaparral herbs sizzle out of the glass, melding into a deep inner core of slate, crushed rocks and chalk. The refined, polished quality of the tannins and the harmony of the refreshing, cool-toned acidity are both particularly excellent in 2023. This is not a flashy vintage of the estate Pinot—it’s a powerhouse with a soft-speaking voice, a wine built for the cellar that’s already showing very well today. Resonant and harmonious, the 2023 is a dynamic, dimensional, utterly classy
wine.
The 2023 Chardonnay is a powerful, super-phenolic, almost chewy white, but all of that texture is bedded on a base layer of crystal-clear, supple, super-ripe golden orchard fruit. Flint, orange zest, chamomile and yellow apple flesh out magnificently into a long, expansive finish that’s propelled by calibrated acidity. This is an unashamedly large-scaled Chardonnay, but it’s finessed through and through. A 17-month stay in 40% new French oak built loads of creamy texture and spicy complexity into the wine’s frame. The 2023 is a total showstopper.
