Captivating from the first taste.Antonio Galloni
The 2021 Vintage of Lucia wines is a favorite of many, and Antonio Galloni of Vinous is no exception. We are deeply humbled by his praise of the 2021 Lucia wine portfolio— describing various bottles as “all class” and “gorgeous, refined wine.” These glowing reviews perfectly capture the feel of drinking Lucia wines.
The 2021 Chardonnay Estate Cuvée is a gorgeous, refined wine. Hints of apricot, tangerine peel, mint, spice and tropical fruit all grace this beautifully perfumed, gracious Chardonnay.
The 2021 Chardonnay Soberanes Vineyard is all class. A wine of understatement and nuance, the 2021 impresses with its detail and impeccable balance. Ripe pear, white flowers, mint, chamomile and spice open gradually as the 2021 reveals its considerable charms.
The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Cuvée is a fabulous introduction to this range. Succulent dark cherry/plum, lavender, licorice, mocha and baking spices are all front and center. This bold, racy Pinot offers tons of sheer immediacy and appeal. I loved it.
The 2021 Pinot Noir Soberanes Vineyard is a dark, brooding wine. Blueberry, lavender, cloves, new leather, incense and dried herbs add to an impression of gravitas. This dark, mysterious Pinot has a ton to offer. Vibrant acids and sneaky tannins lend energy, but the Soberanes is a decidedly potent Pinot.
The 2021 Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard is bright, aromatic and wonderfully effusive. Crushed rose petals, mint, blood orange and cinnamon give the 2021 notable aromatic lift. Vibrant acids drive through it all, adding tension and persistence. This is a superb Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot from one of the appellation’s historic families.
The 2021 Syrah Soberanes Vineyard is superb. Dark, layered and mysterious, the 2021 is captivating from the first taste. Succulent plum, blackberry, lavender, spice, menthol and espresso all meld together. Readers will find a rich, heady Syrah with a ton of fruit and plenty of structure. Wilder Syrah notes have not developed at this stage, and I am not sure they will. I expect this to remain a pretty forward, fruit-driven Syrah.
The 2021 Syrah Susan’s Hill is a wine for readers who appreciate Syrah’s more savory, structured side. Big, sweeping tannins wrap around a blackberry, espresso, gravel, lavender and spice core. Potent and quite tannic, the 2021 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own. This will always be a big wine though.
